Beginning in March 2023, and with increased intensity starting in June, Canada was affected by a record-setting series of wildfires. This smoke scattered blue light wavelengths, which only allowed warmer colors to reach the Earth's surface. This is what happened in New York City, giving its sky a sickly, soiled appearance. Excess smoke makes for dangerously unhealthy air quality. And as predicted by climatologists, human-caused climate change is creating drier conditions that set the stage for more huge fires.
I took these images at the Harlem Meer in Central Park North, and near Schomburg Plaza Buildings on the day of this phenomena.
